On Saturday 21 November 2026 Loreo hosts the fourth 3 x 3333 Relay, a running race for teams of three. It is run in the late afternoon on a loop through the town: meet at 3:33 pm in Piazza Matteotti, start at 5:00 pm.
The race
The name says it all: three legs of 3,333 metres, one for each runner, on a loop through Loreo. That makes almost ten kilometres per team, run in turns. Even the meeting time plays with the numbers: 3:33 pm. This is the fourth edition, and the young relay has already become a fixture of the late-season running calendar in the Polesine.
Where it is listed
The race appears in the Calendario Podistico Polesano 2026, the yearly list of runs and walks in the province published by the Podisti Tagliolesi club of Taglio di Po. The calendar gives a contact person but not the organising club, and says prize money is "still being defined". To sign up, start there.
Why it is worth the trip
Loreo has Venetian roots. Its name comes from Lauretum, a laurel grove, and after a pact signed with Venice in 1094 it stayed Venetian until 1797: you can still see it in the narrow calli and in the cathedral façade designed by Baldassare Longhena, the architect of the Salute church in Venice. A race starting at sunset in such a small town is a good way to discover it, even as a spectator. And anyone coming from further away to run is happy to spend Saturday night in the Delta.
Before and after the race
After the changeovers and the late-November chill, head back to Porto Tolle for dinner at RistòItalia, Porto Tolle. It is still eel season: a grilled eel steak finished in the oven, served with polenta. For a recovery first course there are homemade Pumpkin tortelli or the Fisherman's risotto with Delta Carnaroli rice (for at least two). For the whole team, a table full of pizzas, from the Inverno with radicchio and sausage to the Adriatica with fried mussels and shellfish.
