Porto Tolle running club turns 50: marathoner Eyob Faniel guest on 11 November
On Wednesday 11 November at 9 pm, the Sala della Musica in Porto Tolle celebrates fifty years of the Gruppo Podisti Porto Tolle running club. The guest of honour is Eyob Faniel, third at the 2021 New York City Marathon.
Half a century of running in the Po Delta
Fifty years of training on the river embankments, races, trips and shared finish lines. The club marks the anniversary with an evening open to everyone. Speakers include Mayor Roberto Pizzoli, sports councillor Silvia Boscolo, Marco Del Piccolo, president of the FIDAL Rovigo committee, and Luigino Pelà, local CONI delegate, together with club president Veronica De Stefani and former presidents. The evening is hosted by Salvatore Binatti.
Who is Eyob Faniel
Born in Eritrea and raised near Vicenza, he runs for Fiamme Oro, the Italian State Police sports team. On 7 November 2021 he finished third in New York: the last Italian man on that podium had been Stefano Baldini in 1997. He has set Italian records in the marathon and half marathon and has competed at the Olympic Games.
Before and after the evening
Runners know the rule: rice and pasta the night before a long run. At RistòItalia, Porto Tolle, the rice is Carnaroli from the Delta, in the fisherman's risotto (minimum two people). There are also spaghetti with clams, and for a taste of the season, eel with polenta, on the menu until December.
