Bike friendly hotel in the Po Delta
The Po Delta is cycled along flat embankments, gravel lanes and paths that follow the water: no climbs, plenty of wind and views that change at every bend. A cycling holiday, though, needs a properly equipped base where the bike is not a problem to solve every evening. Albergo Italia, in the centre of Porto Tolle, is set up for exactly that.
Covered, supervised bike storage
Bikes spend the night in a locked, covered room — not in the yard and not in your bedroom. It is the first thing cycle tourists ask for, especially those travelling with road bikes, gravel bikes or valuable e-bikes: you hand the bike over in the evening and find it dry the next morning. The room is accessible to guests during reception hours.
The same room has space for a quick rinse and clean: in the Delta, mud from the embankments and salt from the bays stick to chain and drivetrain, and cleaning the bike in the evening saves you from setting off with a grinding transmission. If you want to know in advance what the washing corner offers, just call reception.
E-bike charging and early breakfast
E-bike riders find dedicated sockets to charge batteries overnight, without carrying the battery pack up to the room. It matters on long routes towards the river mouths, where charging points along the way are few and far apart.
Breakfast can be brought forward on request: on summer days, leaving before seven means riding in the best light, with still air and lagoons still full of birds. If you prefer a later start, breakfast is served at the usual time on the ground floor, in the same building as the restaurant.
Cycle routes and embankments that start here
Porto Tolle sits on the Delta cycle network: from the embankments of the Po di Venezia and the Po di Gnocca you drop down to Sacca degli Scardovari, reach the harbour of Pila and continue to the sandbanks at the river mouths. Many sections run on compact gravel or quiet secondary asphalt, with little traffic and no real gradient.
For longer rides you can link up with the cycling itineraries that follow the river inland or run along the Adriatic coast. The most searched-for spots can be reached by bike along the embankments or a few minutes away by car: the "Where we are" section at the bottom of this page shows them on the map with directions. After the ride
For the night there are 15 rooms and 25 beds at Albergo Italia and 6 rooms and 14 beds at Alloggi Centrale: rates and real-time availability are on the booking page. In the evening you have dinner in the same building where you sleep, at RistòItalia: Delta fish cuisine, portions sized for a day in the saddle and local rice dishes. There is no need to go back out to find food, and the restaurant is open to non-residents too.
Groups and clubs can agree dinner times, bike space and early departures in advance: just mention it in the booking request or call reception: for larger groups we check the available space in the bike room together.
