Cycling the Po Delta: where to stay in Porto Tolle coming from the VenTo, the Adriatic route and the Destra Po

If you reach the Po Delta by bike, you can stay in Porto Tolle at Albergo Italia (Via Matteotti 471), with bike storage, e-bike charging and early breakfast, or at Alloggi Centrale (Via G. Giolo 3), with check-in at Albergo Italia. From the long-distance routes, the three nearest gateways are Porto Viro, Gorino and Ariano nel Polesine.
The routes pass by the Delta, not through it
EuroVelo 8, the European Mediterranean Route running 7,450 kilometres from Andalusia to Cyprus, follows the Po in Italy from Turin to the sea and continues to Chioggia and the Lido di Venezia. EuroVelo 8 follows the Po to its delta, so Porto Tolle is a natural last stop. The guide to the Italian section runs as far as Porto Tolle. The same goes for the VenTo, the Adriatic cycle route and the Destra Po: they skirt the Delta without crossing it. If you are already in the saddle, a short detour is all it takes: follow the river to its end and stay the night.
Gateway 1: Porto Viro, where the VenTo meets the Adriatic route
The VenTo, the cycle route that will link Venice and Turin along the Po, already has two open sections in the province of Rovigo: Porto Viro–Adria, 11 kilometres opened on 19 June 2025, and Loreo–Cavanella d'Adige, 14.4 kilometres. In Porto Viro the VenTo crosses the Adriatic cycle route. Coming from the north, you can take the bike boat between Rosolina and Porto Viro, a seasonal service that grew from just over 2,000 passengers in 2023 to more than 3,100 in 2025. From Porto Viro you ride down along the Po towards Taglio di Po and Ca' Tiepolo: the recorded track for this section is in preparation and we will add it here.
Gateway 2: Gorino, from the Destra Po
The Destra Po cycle route runs for 93 kilometres from Ferrara to Gorino, on the Emilia-Romagna embankment. From there you cross into the Veneto and continue towards Santa Giulia and the island of Donzella. The pontoon bridges have their own opening times and tolls: check them before you set off.
Gateway 3: Ariano nel Polesine and its island
Ariano nel Polesine opens up the island between the branches of the Po: a 56-kilometre loop, with 12 more for the Rivà variant, passes through San Basilio, home to the church built by the monks of Pomposa and the archaeological museum. Our next ride will be devoted to this route.
